Dimitrios Dimitropoulos

Dimitrios Dimitropoulos is an Early Stage Researcher within the Marie Skłodowska-Curie ITN project “ WinGrid”. He is under the supervision of Prof. Frede Blaabjerg in the Department of Energy Technology at Aalborg University .

He is currently working on the modeling and control of wind turbines under disturbances. The work will include the development of a model that implements power system stability analysis and is capable of quantifying and controlling the dynamic interactions within the wind farm.

Dimitrios received his MEng at National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) in 2015. His thesis covered an extended research in control islanding schemes for preventing power system blackouts. In 2019, he graduated from the joint Master’s programme in Smart Electrical Networks and Systems (SENSE) funded by the European Institute of Technology (EIT). He completed the 1st year of the programme at KTH Royal Institute of Technology and the 2nd year at UPC – Polytechnic University of Catalonia. He also completed a research internship in the Power Systems Group at IREC – Catalonia Institute for Energy Research in Barcelona. In his master thesis, which was held at RISE Research Institutes of Sweden, he studied the resonance phenomena between inter-area oscillations and forced oscillations of the Nordic Power system.

His research interests include power system dynamics and stability, converter control strategies as well as wind power penetration to the grid.
